In short: We don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't track you. Your progress is stored in your account. When you talk with Gengo, what you write is processed only to produce a reply. When you delete your account, everything is permanently deleted.
What data we process
| Data | Why | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | To create your account | From Apple or Google when you sign in |
| Learning progress (goal, level, saved words, lists, finished sets and lessons, streak) | To keep your progress and move it between your devices | Generated by the app |
| Conversations with Gengo and "Ask Gengo" requests | To produce replies and show you your conversation history | Directly from you |
| Your voice (if you use voice chat) | To turn what you say into text | The device microphone |
| Subscription status | To manage access to Pro features | Apple and RevenueCat |
We do not collect location, contacts, photos, health records or the advertising identifier. The app contains no third-party advertising or tracking technology.
Where your conversations with Gengo go
What you write or say first goes to our server in Belgium (Google Firebase, europe-west1). To produce a reply, our server sends the conversation text to the AI provider DeepSeek (People's Republic of China); this is a transfer of data outside Europe. Only the conversation text is sent: your name, email, account ID and payment details are not.
As long as you don't use Gengo, none of your text goes to an AI provider. Words, sets, exercises and lessons are prepared in advance and run on your device.
In voice chat your voice is sent to Apple's speech recognition to be turned into text; this is done by iOS itself and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. We don't store voice recordings. Gengo's replies are read aloud with your phone's own voice.
Who we work with
| Service | Purpose | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Sign-in, database, server functions | European Union (europe-west1, Belgium) |
| DeepSeek | Producing Gengo's replies | People's Republic of China |
| Apple | Sign-in, payments, speech recognition | Apple's own infrastructure |
| RevenueCat | Subscription validation | United States |
We pass these providers only the data the service needs to work; we don't share data for marketing, profiling or sale.
Notifications
Word and lesson reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device; no notification token is sent to our server. You can turn reminders off in the app or in iPhone Settings.
How long we keep data
Your progress and conversation history are kept while your account exists. You can delete conversations one by one in the app. When you delete your account, all your data is permanently deleted from our server.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete and export your data (GDPR). You can delete your account in the app under Profile › Delete my account. For other requests, write to support.gepgo@gmail.com.
Children
Tuki is an educational app for a general audience. Users under 13 should use the app with a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly keep data from anyone under 13.
