In short: Use the app without an account and nothing leaves your phone. Sign in and your plans are backed up to an account only you can read. We show no ads, sell no data and ship no third-party tracking. You can delete your account from inside the app in one tap.
Using it without an account
When you are not signed in, your plans, notes, habits and settings live only on your phone. Nothing is sent to our servers. Deleting the app deletes that data with it.
What is on the server once you sign in
| Data | Why | Where from |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address | To create and recognise your account | From Google or Apple when you sign in |
| Username | Your identity inside the app | Generated on first sign-in |
| Your plans: blocks, tasks, notes and note bodies, tags, checklists, habits, completion records, flight details | To sync them across your devices | Directly from you |
| A cover photo you attach to a note | So the note looks the same on every device | Directly from you |
| App settings: language, theme, day start and end hour, notification preferences | So a new device comes up configured | From the app |
| Assistant chat history (last 30 conversations) | So you can return to earlier questions | Directly from you |
Voice recordings never leave your phone. Only the file path of a recording is synced; the audio itself stays on the device and does not follow you to a new phone.
What we do not collect
We do not collect location, contacts, your system calendar, your photo library at large, Apple Health data or an advertising identifier. The app contains no third-party ad network, analytics or crash reporting. We keep no usage statistics.
Permissions
| Permission | Used for | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Recording a voice note | No — asked only when you start a recording |
| Photos | Picking a cover photo for a note | No — asked only when you add a photo |
| Notifications | Showing reminders | No — the app works fully without them |
Where your data is kept
Account and plan data is stored on Google Firebase
(Authentication and Cloud Firestore). Our server functions run in
Belgium (europe-west1).
Access rules allow an account to read and write only its own documents; reaching another person's data is denied at the database level. There is no shared or public area anywhere in the app.
The AI assistant
When you ask the assistant a question, the following goes to our server and is forwarded from there to DeepSeek:
- Your question
- The last month of your plans: each block's date, time, length, kind, title, tag and whether it was completed
- How often each habit was completed in that period, and its streak
- Your note bodies (at most 40 notes, up to 600 characters each)
- The recent messages in that conversation
What is sent contains no name, email address or account identifier. The AI provider's API key is not in the app — it lives on the server in Google Secret Manager, so nobody can pull it out of the downloaded app.
Cross-border transfer: DeepSeek is a company based in China. Using the assistant transfers the content above outside Europe, to China, and by using it you consent to that transfer. If you never use the assistant, nothing is ever sent to DeepSeek — the rest of the app works exactly the same without it.
Google Calendar
If you choose to connect Google Calendar, Daypen reads your calendar events (read-only) directly from Google to your device so they can be shown on your planner. These events are kept only on your device for the current session. They are not stored on our servers, not shared with third parties, not sent to any AI service, and not used for advertising or to train AI models. You can disconnect at any time in Settings, or revoke access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Daypen's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Notifications
Reminders are calculated on your device and scheduled locally by iOS. We use no push notifications and collect no device notification token. Reminder contents never reach our servers.
Purchases
A Daypen Pro subscription or lifetime purchase is made through Apple; your card details never reach us and stay with Apple. To keep track of whether a subscription is active we use a service called RevenueCat: the anonymous purchase identifier Apple issues, the product identifier and the expiry date go there. Our own server stores only whether your account is Pro and until when.
You can cancel at any time on your iPhone under Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions; refund requests go to Apple.
